PPDTOPOD(1) Impressario PPDTOPOD(1)NAMEppdtopod - convert a PPD file to an Impressario POD file.
SYNOPSISppdtopod <lp_model_filename> <PPD_filename>
DESCRIPTIONppdtopod parses a PPD (PostScript Printer Description) file and generates
an Impressario POD (Printer Object Database) file.
ppdtopod uses the files <lp_mode_filename>.config_template, .log_template
and .status_template files to generate the final Impressario
<lp_mode_filename>.config, .log and .status POD files.
If the <lp_mode_filename>.config_template file is not found
impressario_ppd_model.config_template is used as a default (same for the
.status and .log files).
The .config, .log and .status POD files are found in the
/usr/lib/print/data directory.
Once created, the output .config, .log and .status files will be device
specific since they contain information from a PPD file.
ppdtopod is normally invoked by /usr/lib/lputil when installing an
Impressario supported printer that uses the Impressario PPD driver. This
is done to convert a PPD to a specific POD file using the POD template
files. /usr/lib/lputil then installs the printer as an Impressario
driver using the generated POD files.
/usr/lib/lputil is not intended for general use. ppdtopod is not
intended for general use. To install an Impressario printer use the
Printer Manager tool or the mkcentpr(1M), mknetpr(1M), mkserialpr(1M) or
mkscsipr(1M) shell scripts.
